Job Description:

Responsible, under the guidance of the Community Programs Coordinator and/or Community Programmer for the development, implementation and supervision of the Town’s Summer Camp Integration portfolio. This position will assist with participant intakes and will provide support to other seasonal camp staff to provide and ensure a safe, inclusive program experience for all participants, volunteers and staff. This position is responsible for providing hands on support pertaining to group management techniques and behavioural intervention methods to assist with accommodating challenging behaviours for diagnosed, undiagnosed, supported, and unsupported campers across all Town summer camps, including those delivered by contracted service providers.

Qualifications:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in a related discipline. Education in Child and Youth Social Work, Behaviour Science, Applied Behaviour Analysis, or Therapeutic Recreation is an asset.
  • Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) certification from an accredited institution or association required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience performing duties related to the above mentioned areas of responsibility. Must have experience working with children and youth with a disability, preferably in a municipal day camp environment. Must also have experience with accommodating challenging behaviours and providing crisis intervention, preferably with children and youth under 16 years of age in a recreational setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with individuals with exceptionalities, aggressive behaviours, mental health challenges and diverse populations.
  • Good interpersonal, customer service, organizational, and supervisory skills; ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Other mandatory certifications: CPR and First Aid Certification level C.
  • Other preferred certifications: Mental Health First Aid and ASSIST.
  • Understanding & Managing Aggressive Behaviour (UMAB) Certificate an asset.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with program participants, parents/guardians, the general public and staff. 

Successful applicants to this position will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening Check that is satisfactory to the Town prior to their start date.
