EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST – Job Description
Hours of work: 35 hours per week.
Location: Bradford West Gwillimbury
REPORTING TO THE EMPLOYMENT SERVICES MANAGER
The Employment Specialist will support clients from assessment through to employment. This will be
done by providing ongoing assistance and follow up to monitor progress by linking clients with appropriate community and employment supports, providing job coaching and training opportunities.
The Employment Specialist will:
  • Work collaboratively with employment assisted individuals to develop an 'Employment Action
  • Plan' and provide support in working toward a mutually agreed employment related outcome
  • Conduct standardized assessments to determine client interests, aptitudes and abilities on a one on-one basis, where appropriate identify barriers to employment and assist clients to develop job readiness skills and job search strategies
  • Assess need for additional assistance and make appropriate, supported referrals to community, government and employment related services
  • Support clients in accessing employment related programs where appropriate
  • Follow up with clients at appropriate intervals to assess and record progress, provide job coaching support or facilitate re-engagement with Bradford WORKS
  • Conduct outreach to community organizations to promote Bradford WORKS, develop good
  • quality partnerships, establish referral protocols and conduct direct work with clients when appropriate
  • Assist clients in determining employment support needs
  • Liaise with job developer, facilitator, information and resource personnel, government departments and other social, employment and community agencies on mutual clients as needed to facilitate client progress
  • Conduct employment workshops based upon identified clients' needs
  • Enter accurate client data into the Employment Ontario information System, EOIS CaMs in a timely manner
  • Maintain case notes and appropriate documentation about client progress
  • Complete required paperwork for clients wishing to access training
  • Other duties as assigned by the Employment Services Manager

Qualifications:

  • College Diploma or University Degree in Career and Work Counselling, Human Resources, Social Work, Social Services or related
  • Experience in a similar role in non-profit sector
  • Counselling/placement experience with multi-barrier individuals will be considered a strong asset
  • Knowledge of local labour market
  • Familiarity with legislation related to employment, i.e., Employment Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Human Rights Code, WSIB.
  • Familiarity with Ontario Disability Support Program and Ontario Works employment supports.
  • A satisfactory and current Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • A second language reflecting the local community is preferred.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for local travel.
