Community Programs   

CONTACT Community Services offers a number of programs to support the needs of the Community:

New Horizons for Seniors

CONTACT offers free social wellness programming to isolated seniors in Beeton, Bradford West Gwillimbury and Alliston. The program is designed with the input from seniors and the volunteers who help deliver the program and is customized to the interests and needs of each community. Activities range from information sessions on internet security to arts and crafts and music. Funding for this program is provided by Ministry of Employment and Social Development.

Free Income Tax Clinics

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) allows community members with low-come, to have their income tax filed with the help of a volunteer at no cost.  Clinics occur primarily in March and April in both Alliston and Bradford.  Appointments can also be made year-around, and up to 10 years of taxes can be filed. To qualify for the program residents of South Simcoe must meet the following criteria:

  • You are an individual whose income is under $30,000 per year or a couple whose income is under $40,000 per year.
  • Your tax situation is simple if you have no income, or if your income comes from these sources:
    • Employment,
    • Pension,
    • Benefit or support payments,
    • RRSP,
    • Scholarships or grants,
    • Interest (under $1,000)

You are not eligible if you:

  • Have filed for bankruptcy,
  • Are self-employed,
  • Are reporting capital gains/losses, employment expenses or rental incomes,
  • Are filing for someone who was deceased in the last year,

Needle Exchange Program

In partnership with the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit, CONTACT provides free needle exchange supplies at its office at 39 Victoria Street, Alliston. No identifying information is requested. 

Services provided:

  • Injection kits including, new needles, spoons (cookers), alcohol swabs, sterile water, tourniquets, and when requested vitamin C
  • Safe smoking kits including, glass stems or bowl pipes, screens, and mouth pieces
  • Sharps containers for the safe disposal of used needles, stems, pipes and other substance use equipment
  • Information about safer substance use and about community supports

211 connects people to the right information and services within their community. You can phone 211 or visit their website to get information on a wide range of topics including community programs, health care, housing income support, mental health, disabilities, newcomers, LGBTQ+, abuse, food, government resources and more.  Both email and live chat are available through the website.
